On October 12, 2005, The Ripon Society visited Ripon, Wisconsin for a State Policy Outreach Event featuring U.S. Representative Tom Petri. From the Mayor of Ripon to local college students, over 110 people attended our luncheon. Attendees were able to meet one another, learn more about The Ripon Society, and hear Congressman Petri discuss his proposed solutions to problems in America’s federal student loan programs.
One of The Ripon’s Society’s
original founders in the
early 1960’s, Congressman
Petri also gave a wonderful
recount of the Society’s
formation and early years.
It was truly a special
experience to tie today’s
Ripon Society with its
historic beginnings in the
birthplace of the Republican
Party.
During the event,
The Ripon Society
made a special
donation to the
Little White
Schoolhouse to help
cover much needed
renovation costs.
Used as a gathering
place by a group of
individuals in 1854
to create the
Republican Party,
stepping inside the
Little White
Schoolhouse really
brought history to
life. I highly
recommend visiting
this great relic of
American and
Republican history.
In addition, three
outstanding local
students were
awarded Ripon
Society Scholarships
to help pay for
their college
tuition. These
great students have
excelled in school
and have been
exemplary citizens
in the Ripon
community.
Congratulations to
Alyssa Sondalle, Dan
Sterba, and John
Pimental for
well-deserved
scholarships.
