On Friday, April 27, 2007, the Ripon Society hosted a State Policy Outreach Dinner Event in Allentown, PA with US Representative Charlie Dent. Many people from the surrounding Lehigh Valley area came out to hear Representative Dent discuss his work in Congress and to congratulate six local high school students who received $1,000 Ripon Society Education
al Scholarship Awards. We congratulate Alyssa DeGrace,
Emma Helverson,
Christina
Powell, Thomas
Balsai, Jordan
Roberts, and
Eric Stenger on
their
well-deserved
scholarships,
and we wish all
of them the very
best in the
future!
During his
speech,
Congressman
Charlie Dent
discussed the
important role
of Members of
Congress in
helping military
commanders in
Iraq and
Afghanistan by
being mindful of
how their words
affect security
operations;
increasing
investment in
energy
technologies
like hydrogen
and fuel cells
in order to
decrease our
dependence on
foreign oil;
improving
America’s
science and math
education; and
improving border
security
measures by
using more
advanced
technologies for
surveillance and
deterrence.
