Policy SERIES DINNER BRIEFING
WITH congressMAN BILL THOMAS
The Capitol Hill Club

On Wednesday, February 7, over 90 members of The Ripon Society gathered at The Capitol Hill Club for our first policy dinner of the year.  The guest of honor was House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas of California’s 22nd District.

The evening began with a surprise appearance by newly-elected House Majority Leader John Boehner of the 8th District of Ohio.  The Majority Leader gave a few remarks on the recent leadership race and the upcoming year in Congress.  Chairman Thomas then gave his thoughts on the agenda that lies ahead, commenting on the President’s budget proposal and the opportunities and challenges of the House and Senate working together this year.  He also answered questions on Social Security reform, proposed tax cuts and tax credits, and immigration, among other issues.
